ANNIVERSARY WEEKEND 14 - 16 August 2009:
A celebration for 18 years of the BCDMRS; this year we opened the first phase of the extension!
The ceremony took place on Friday 14th August when Ards deputy Mayor, Councillor David F Smith cut the tape to mark the opening of the latest track extension. At the same time the Chairman of the 7&1/4” Society, David Boyde, drove in the final ‘golden’ spike.
The deputy Mayor expressed his fascination and indeed surprise at the extent of the miniature railway facilities established by the local Society.
Congratulating the members on what had been achieved, David Boyde emphasised ‘works’ of this nature only came about if there was a strong team spirit, providing not only the effort but also the encouragement to fulfil the goal.
Society member Roger then thanked all those who worked with him to achieve so much.
Formalities over, the whole party re-boarded the trains and a cavalcade of some 20 locomotives and trains traversed the new line to return to the station for a celebratory barbeque and bonfire.
On Saturday night some 30 members and guests enjoyed an excellent meal in the Cafe manor in Donaghadee.

This is the extended control panel in the signal box; the top section operates points and signals on the extension.
When traffic is light drivers will have the option to set their route using lineside buttons to change the points.
